United Nations – French presidency of the Security Council – Visit by Jean-Marc Ayrault (New York, June 9 to 10)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will visit New York from June 9 to 10 to mark the French presidency of the Security Council.

On June 10, he will chair a ministerial meeting of the Security Council on the protection of civilians in peacekeeping operations, which will notably be attended by the UN secretary-general, the president of the Central African Republic and the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The debate will provide an opportunity to reaffirm France’s commitment to international humanitarian law and the essential role of peacekeeping operations – in which we actively participate – in protecting civilians in situations of conflict. Jean-Marc Ayrault will also talk about the ministerial conference that France will host in February 2017 on the protection of children in armed conflict. He will meet with human rights NGOs.

During his visit, Jean-Marc Ayrault will launch, in the United States, the “Creative France” campaign aimed at promoting French know-how and our companies’ capacity for innovation. He will meet with French-American children’s publishers and will attend a dinner hosted by the American Friends of the Paris Opera & Ballet, which will notably be attended by Stéphane Lissner and Aurélie Dupont. He will meet with American columnists to discuss our foreign policy priorities.

Jean-Marc Ayrault will also meet with representatives of the American Jewish community.
