France is gravely concerned by the Burmese authorities’ refusal to cooperate with the United Nations Secretary-General, in particular by prohibiting him from meeting Aung San Suu Kyi. The Burmese authorities have lost the opportunity to show that they wish to enter into a genuine process of national reconciliation and democratization.

France fully shares the concerns expressed by the United Nations Secretary-General during this visit. We reaffirm our full support for his mission which carries the international communities’ expectations vis-à-vis the Burmese authorities./.
