31 July 2008 - UNAMID : Statement by Mr Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Chargé d’Affaires, after the adoption of resolution 1828

We noted that all members of the Security Council have expressed support to the extension of UNAMID’s mandate and to its mission on the ground. Obviously, we would have preferred a unanimous vote. But it is now important to do everything to accelerate UNAMID deployment and to strengthen its capacities. We expect the government of Khartum to fully co-operate in that regard.

We also expect Khartum’s co-operation in promoting progress in the political process and its full co-operation with the ICC.

On the AU request regarding the ICC prosecutor’s recommendations, we do not think that the current situation regarding Karthum’s cooperation on all these issues warrants taking action at the Council at this stage./.
