On the occasion of the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host, at the Quai d’Orsay, an event dedicated to combating violence against women. A ceremony, presided over by Mr. Thierry Repentin, Minister Delegate for European Affairs, will also take place on December 12 to present the French Republic’s Human Rights Prize, awarded by the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights.
Human rights are among the founding values of the French Republic. They lie at the heart of our diplomatic action.
France, which was elected to the UN Human Rights Council in November, intends to promote, within this forum, the highest standards of protection and to do everything possible to ensure the universality and effectiveness of human rights.
Within the Security Council, which is currently presided over by France, we are also mobilized to ensure the protection of civilians throughout the world, notably in Syria and the Central African Republic. The promotion of women’s rights and the protection of journalists are key priorities of our action.
