22 April 2014 - South Sudan - Attacks on the United Nations Mission base in Bor and on the town of Bentiu

Statement of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development

France condemns the attacks by armed groups on the United Nations Mission base in Bor, South Sudan, and on the town of Bentiu.

Deliberately targeting civilians and peacekeepers is unacceptable. The perpetrators of these war crimes and serious human rights violations must be held accountable for their actions.

We reaffirm our support for the UN Mission in South Sudan, which is performing an essential task with respect to humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians and human rights. It must be able to implement its mandate without hindrance and in complete security.

France calls on the parties to enforce the cessation of hostilities agreement in full and without delay, and to guarantee humanitarian access to civilian populations.
