Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will today participate in the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People in Amman.
In a context of increased violence on the part of the regime and its allies, this meeting will provide an opportunity to stress the need for a political solution to the crisis.
The participants will discuss the upcoming Geneva II Conference which will bring together for the first time representatives of the opposition and the regime.
With this in mind, the meeting of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People will notably provide an opportunity to specify the practical arrangements for the political transition. This will involve the formation by mutual consent of a transitional government, with full executive powers, which would exclude all those whose presence could undermine the credibility of the transition and jeopardize stability and reconciliation.
