France reaffirms its condemnation of the launch of a long-range rocket on December 12 by North Korea. It again urges North Korea to immediately comply with its international obligations and to dismantle its nuclear and ballistic missile programs in a complete, verifiable, and irreversible manner.
France welcomes the unanimous adoption on January 22 by the UN Security Council of resolution 2087 condemning North Korea for the launch it carried out on December 12, 2012, in violation of Security Council resolutions 1695, 1718, and 1874.
This resolution strengthens sanctions against North Korea, notably through the listing of new individuals and entities, and the strengthening of heightened financial vigilance measures. These measures constitute a firm response by the international community to the most recent rocket launch carried out by North Korea.
We again urge North Korea to refrain from any gesture that could further increase tensions in the region and jeopardize international peace and security.
