The Minister of Foreign Affairs, M. Laurent Fabius, had a telephone conversation this afternoon with the President of the Central African Republic, Mr François Bozizé.
They discussed the situation in the country in the context of the rebel forces’ advance towards the capital, and the day after a demonstration targeted the French Embassy in Bangui.
M. Fabius said he hoped the situation in the capital would calm down and asked President Bozizé to ensure the Central African authorities would shoulder their responsibility to protect foreign nationals living in their country and guarantee the safety of diplomatic premises.
President Bozizé expressed his regret over yesterday’s incidents and said all necessary measures would be taken to guarantee the safety of foreign nationals.
