The Security Council visited Uganda and Sudan from 5 to 10 October.
The representatives of the 15 Member States of the Security Council met with President Yoweri Museveni.
They also met with the President of the autonomous region of Southern Sudan, Mr. Salva Kiir, in Juba.
They went to El Fasher in Darfur, headquarters of the UN-African Union hybrid peace mission in this region that has been ravaged by civil war. The representatives of the 15 visited the UNAMID facility there.
The Security Council was in Khartoum on 9 October where meetings took place with the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ali Karti, and vice-president Taha.
Within the framework of preparations for the referendum on self-determination in Southern Sudan, scheduled for 9 January 2011, as well as the continued violence in Darfur, the goal of this mission, as announced by the presidency of the Security Council, held by Uganda in October, is notably "to support the efforts to promote peace in the areas visited."
