The French Minister for Women’s rights and Government’s Spokesperson, Mrs Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, will be in New York on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th of March, for the opening of the Commission on the status of Women (CSW). This United Nations Commission is an important instrument for the empowerment of women and gender equality in the world. This year’s meeting is dedicated to the empowerment of women in the frame of the post-2015 development Agenda, a key issue for France as we have proposed a stand-alone goal on women’s rights in the post 2015 Agenda. More than 60 Ministers in charge of the empowerment of women and thousands of NGOs will participate.
Mrs Najat Vallaud-Belkacem will present the positions of France on Monday morning in the plenary session (on webtv.un.org from 10am on).
She will chair two side-events on Monday 10 March: one on sexual and reproductive health and rights in the post-2015 Agenda, the other on the elimination of violence against women. She will also participate to the opening of an event organized by NGOs on combatting prostitution and human trafficking.
The Minister will also meet with several of her counterparts as well as with the Executive Director of UN-Women, Mrs Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, and NGOs active for women empowerment.
