The law on strengthening the legal means to fight against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their vectors has just been promulgated and published in the Official Journal of the French Republic.
This law brings our national legal instrument on the fight against proliferation up to date, and strengthens the coherence and deterrent nature of this instrument.
The main provisions of this text relate to:
— the criminalization of new acts - notably proliferation financing -, and harsher sentences;
— harsher sentences associated with missile proliferation;
— the strengthening of procedural means to fight against proliferation through the creation of a specific heading in the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The entry into force of this law makes the French legal system one of the most effective and exemplary legal systems in terms of sanctions against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their vectors.
This law constitutes the implementation of the White Paper on National Defense and Security and expresses in concrete terms France’s commitment to the fight against proliferation and to honoring its international commitments.
