France welcomes the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution demanding Iran’s cooperation in the inquiry into the plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.
The adoption of this text by a large majority reflects the international community’s concern in the face of the Iranian authorities’ attitude.
This resolution, which was drafted by Saudi Arabia and which we co-sponsored, deplores this assassination plot and calls on Iran to uphold its international commitments notably in relation to the Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including diplomatic staff.
As soon as it became aware of this matter, France utterly condemned such practices and supported the adoption of sanctions at the European level against those involved in this plot to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador in Washington.
Once again, we urge all States to cooperate with the American justice system in order to shed full light on this case.
