Special Tribunal for Lebanon – Lebanese Government’s decision to release funds
Statement by the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs
France welcomes the Lebanese government’s decision to release funds for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon for 2011 and expresses its appreciation to Prime Minister Najib Mikati. This decision allows Lebanon to comply with its international obligations with regard to its contribution to the STL budget pursuant to the relevant provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1757. This contribution will provide the tribunal with the necessary means to continue its work.
We hope the STL will now be able to complete its mission under the best possible conditions.
We hope that having taken this step, the Lebanese government will be able to work on the reforms that are so eagerly anticipated by the Lebanese.
France once again reiterates its friendship for the Lebanese people and its support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
