During Security Council consultations on Friday, Mr. Kofi Annan called on the Security Council members to finally speak with one voice on Syria.
France reaffirms the support that we’ve shown from the outset for the difficult mission of the Joint UN and Arab League Special Envoy for Syria.
We want the Security Council to swiftly express its support for Mr. Kofi Annan’s action to bring an end to the bloody crackdown and to secure humanitarian access, in order to finally achieve a credible and peaceful political solution to the crisis in Syria based on the Arab initiative endorsed by the UNGA on February 16.
The assessment of needs in terms of humanitarian action, which the UN and OIC missions have been undertaking since Sunday, is a first step. This must take place as swiftly as possible given the clearly urgent need to take action.
