Mr. Alain Juppé, Ministre d’Etat, Minister for Defense and Veterans, will make an official visit to the United States from 7 to 9 February 2011, to meet with several key American figures in Washington and several key UN figures at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
On 7 February, the Ministre d’Etat will be received by Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations.
This visit to the UN headquarters will notably be an opportunity for France to reaffirm its support for the peacekeeping operations currently being deployed, as well as for the continuation of the reforms undertaken in this area.
With 1,540 soldiers, experts and police officers deployed within the framework of peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the United Nations, France is the second leading contributor among the Security Council members, after China. It is also the 5th leading financial contributor.
Following his meeting with the Secretary-General, Mr. Alain Juppé will meet with the press at the UN headquarters at 12:20 pm in the North Lawn Building, 2nd floor stake out area.
