Economic, social and environmental issues
The protection of the environment, economic development and social development are acknowledged by the international community as being the three fundamental pillars of sustainable development, of development that “meets the needs of the present without comprising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
France plays an active role in the UN’s actions in these areas, whether within the General Assembly and its Second Committee on Economic, Social and Environmental Issues, or at the level of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and its subsidiary organs.
